WINTER SOLSTICE ~ December 21, 2011
To create Solstice and Equinox charts from a mundane perspective I use a 0-Aries (solar) chart with the Sun on the Ascendant. Even though it is a one day event I believe the chart has an overall affect for the next 3 months, until the Vernal (Spring) Equinox.
The Solstices and Equinoxes always deal with the 0 Aries point, the most vital degree in the entire zodiac (see Uranian Astrology). Any planets that fall between 0-5 degrees in the Cardinal signs, Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn, become major players in the chart.
The Winter Solstice puts the Sun at 0 Capricorn next to Pluto at almost 7 degrees, creating a T-square with Uranus at 0 Aries on the IC, and 0 Libra on the Mid Heaven (MC). So……
Capricorn, representing big business, conservatism and traditional values rules the chart. Sun sitting next to Pluto ~ power, corruption, desire and control ~ makes it look as though round 1 of the ‘Occupy’ movement goes to corporate America. A trine to Jupiter (luck & abundance) on the 5th house cusp of romance, children and pleasure, indicates they will win over the masses with many more new gadgets and devices geared towards fun, entertainment and youth. Economic resurgence looks promising through technological development ~ Venus in Aquarius, the new age thinker and inventor, in the 2nd house of finances. Our global image of rebuilding is further enhanced through innovation and smart politicking ~ Saturn in Venus ruled Libra (harmony and balance) in the 10th.
As I predicted in my Autumnal Equinox report, you will still have civil unrest and plenty of national dissention with Uranus on the 4th house cusp. This most unpredictable and unreliable planet ruling our domestic sector spotlights the unconventional family and the fluxuating housing market. Earthquakes on American soil are another possibility. Residing in the pioneering sign of Aries, Uranus emphasizes embracing 2012 in different and unique ways.
Aries ruler Mars, the feisty warrior, sits up in Virgo in the 9th house of foreign affairs, legal, educational, Spiritual and philosophic endeavors. It tends to stir up trouble but always sticks up for its beliefs. The war in Iraq may be over but there is still plenty of aggression going on overseas that will impact our nation’s internal affairs. Perhaps these are issues for protesters to latch onto?
Mars squares the nodes of karma and destiny. The south node (karma) in Gemini in the 6th house of job market and health care continues to make those areas look doubtful. The north node (destiny) lies next to Virgo & Gemini’s ruler Mercury ~ all forms of communication ~ in the 12th house of secrets and getting things done behind the scenes. Both Mercury and the north node fall in the sign of Sagittarius emphasizing the global impact on their affairs.
It appears in the Winter Solstice chart that we can benefit through women. The patriotic and domestic sign Cancer rules the house of partnerships. It contains the Part of Fortune at 29 degrees pressing up on the 8th house cusp ~ ‘other people’s money’. Along with Venus in the 2nd house it indicates financial aid or strength through a feminine source.
Cancer’s ruler, the Moon, sits in the 11th house of allies in the introspective yet powerful sign of Scorpio. Look for the immergence of a strong female presence in a distant country (Golda Meir is a name from the past that comes to mind) or someone on home soil with strong ties to their native land, who may offer to assist us. The Moon’s square to Neptune (the great illusionist) at 29 Aquarius on the 3rd house cusp of communication, indicates a potential hidden agenda. Expect important negotiations of some sort.
Chiron, the wounded healer, and Neptune both represent healing. Chiron in Neptune’s sign Pisces furthers this objective. The media will be saturated with stories of veterans who fought in the Iraqi war with lots of commentary to follow.
We can learn from these brave souls how to restore ourselves through selfless generosity, knowing that what we put out to the Universe comes back 10 fold. What an appropriate theme for the holiday season and to take with us into 2012! As we begin the New Year on January 1st, all the planets are in direct motion (no retrogrades) which holds huge potential for all new beginnings.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE and a marvelous winter season!
